Welcome To IESM 2019 !

The 8th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Systems Management by 25-27 September 2019

Intelligent Urban Agglomerations

Benefits, Trends, Strategies, and Challenges for Social & Economic Development

Intelligent Urban Agglomerations

According to the actual applications of intelligent urban agglomerations, shared data plays an essential role in the evolution. We can observe the following impacts, which use the Internet as a major medium:

Sharing economy. It integrates idle items or resources (such as bicycles, cars), so that people can enjoy them with a much lower cost than otherwise.
Intelligent transportation. Advanced data transmission, electronic sensing, satellite navigation and positioning technology are effectively integrated in the transportation management. Various technologies support a wide range, real-time, accurate and efficient integrated transportation system.
Intelligent manufacturing. The new industrial revolution, known as Industry 4.0, is underway. It offers a greater flexibility and efficiency in operations and resource allocations. In intelligent manufacturing, networks play an important role with real-time information communication.
Intelligent medical service. A typical method taking the advantages of both online and offline service is to combine traditional medical industries and the Internet. It greatly reduces the difficulties for population, and provides more efficient and rational medical resource allocations.
Intelligent trade. Online shopping and payment have changed people’s shopping behavior, which also contributes to an explosive demand in logistics industry. Intelligent logistics can well enhance the transportation abilities for fragmental logistics via intelligent network systems.

Besides the contributions to the traditional domains, intelligent urban agglomerations also promote the development of the following aspects.
Public safety. Extensive coverage of monitoring system can protect personal and property safety for the population. Integrated professional organizations can quickly respond to natural and social disasters.
Energy saving and pollution management. More and more new technologies are adopted to reduce energy cost and pollution. Enterprises can optimize their organization structures via upgrading and restructuring.

The implement of the intelligent urban agglomerations, however, faces a lot of theoretical and practical challenges. On the one hand, it is a big challenge for decision-makers to efficiently organize or distribute massive data. On the other hand, how to analyze and use collected data in relevant practices is also a great challenge. Under this context, researchers and scholars may face academic problems as follows.
- Extract useful information from massive data, as well as manage the extracted data.
- Develop new models and approaches for various application areas, and find ways to integrate them to achieve global goals.
- Consider uncertain environments with response to random events and emergency, such as in medical and transportation managements.
- Control and manage risks in order to achieve a target for the safety and security of systems.

The conference is co-sponsored by IEEE, I4e2, GdR MACS, NSFC, etc. The Proceedings will be published by IEEE and available in Xplore, and index by EI.
